Lyda Mae Capps Mason, of Irving, passed away Thursday, May 15, 2008.  She was born on January 1, 1914 in Thornton, Texas.  She was the second child born to Thomas Marion and Della Mae Capps.  Lyda was one of five siblings who lost their mother shortly after giving birth to twins.  The family was devastated by their mother’s untimely death, as all the children were pre-teens.  They had an Aunt Stella who became a surrogate mother to each of them until Tom Capps remarried.  His new wife was very young and immature at motherhood.  As a result, Lyda’s childhood memories were somewhat turbulent.  The Mason family also resided in the area and Lyda Mae met Horace Mason as a teen.  Their romance blossomed into marriage in 1935.  They moved to the Dallas area after the birth of twins, Jackie and Jerry, so that Horace could seek employment.  Horace purchased a small house in the Union Bower area of Irving in the early forties and Lyda resided there until moving to a nursing home in 1998.  After her twins were almost grown, Lyda sold Avon products door-to-door and made many friends in Union Bower as she “peddled” Avon.  She later was employed for approximately twelve years by the Irving ISD as a night lead custodian.  She also served several years as a church custodian after Horace’s death.  Lyda Mae was a dedicated and devoted member of Union Bower Baptist Church for some twenty years until she united with the Knight Lane Baptist Church, now Memorial Baptist, in 1964.  She was a marvelous Sunday school teacher of young children in both churches for over forty years.  Her main emphasis was Bible memory, and she taught hundreds of children to memorize scripture.  They were always given a prize for every verse they could quote.  Preceded in death by her beloved husband, Horace Mason in 1988, and twin son Jerry Mason in 1994, survivors include her son Jackie Mason of Irving; sisters-in-law Kathryn Capps of Groesbeck, and Joyce Deans of McKinney; and grandchildren Randall Mason, Karen Mason, Tracey Mason, and Sawyer Mason.   Funeral services will be held 11 AM Tuesday, May 20, 2008 at Memorial Baptist Church, 614 S. Joshua Wayne Adkison, devoted father, loving and caring husband, outstanding son who chose the Navy as a career, was tragically taken from us along with his precious 2 year old daughter, Madison Kaye, on 27 January 2008, as a result of a head on automobile accident.

Josh was born on April 26, 1983 in Arlington, Texas, the son of Matthew Wayne and Lisa Jo (Grier) Adkison and was raised in Cleburne and Grandview, Texas. He was a lifelong member, and baptized at Central Church of Christ. He played football for his high school and was a member of Future Farmers of America, and showed livestock at the county fair. Immediately after high school, Josh attended Hill Junior College for a time before enlisting in the Navy on May 18, 2004. After basic training, Josh was stationed in Virginia Beach, Virginia. On March 11, 2005 he married Kristina Nichole Miller. Their daughter Madison Kaye, was born November 15, 2005.

Josh had recently returned from the Global War on Terrorism Independent Surge Deployment 2007, where he served with distinction on the USS Carter Hall as an Engineman 3rd Class. The family was in route to their new duty station in Ingleside, Texas when they were killed and taken from us.

Josh was an outstanding young man who loved and cared for his family above all else. He was a kind and caring husband, father and son. The Navy and service to his country were his second love. In his spare time, Josh enjoyed watching football games and playing video games. His loss is an unbelievable one to all who knew and loved him.

Maddie Kaye was a precious little girl who loved to play and crawl around on the floor, playing hide and seek with her Daddy. She had a beautiful smile that matched her Daddy’s. Although Josh and Maddie’s loss to us is almost too much to bear, we are comforted that they are both now in heaven serving our Lord as angels.

Many are left to grieve and to remember Josh and Maddie. They include wife Kristina Adkison of Lake Dallas, daughter/sister Hope Adkison of Cleburne; parents/grandparents Matthew and Lisa Jo Adkison of Grandview, Don and Cindy Scott of Lake Dallas, Doug and Shannon Miller of Keller; brother/uncle Jakeb Adkison of Grandview, brother-in-law/uncle Nicholas Miller of Keller, Rob and Micah Scott of Lake Dallas; sister-in-law/aunts Crystal Kohl and Reagan Miller of Keller; grandparents/great grandparents Ralph and Kathleen Adkison, James and Frances Grier of Grandview, Donna Schuyler of Rock Island, IL, David and Becky Lammers of Freeport, IL, Rich and Barb Miller of Moline, IL. There is a large extended family and many friends who grieve with us over the loss of Josh and Madison. Preceded in death by great aunt Heather Longmire.

The family asks that contributions be made in lieu of flowers in Josh and Maddie’s name to the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, 2222 Welborn Street, Dallas, TX  75219; telephone 214-559-7650.
