Obituary for Harold Wayne "Hal" Todd

Harold Wayne "Hal" Todd, beloved husband and father, passed from this life on September 1, 2014, at the age of 79. Hal was born in Slaton, Texas on September 22, 1934 to C. F. and Georgia Todd. He served as a radar technician in the U.S. Air Force from 1952 to 1956. Following his service to his country, Hal put his electronics expertise to work in seismography and television repair in west Texas where he met Edith Lorena Hanna whom he married on August 25, 1963. Just before moving from Missouri to Irving in 1969, Hal became involved with the Boy Scouts of America, an organization he served until his final days by sharing his love of the outdoors and passion for lifelong learning. He served the Scouts as an Assistant Scoutmaster and Scoutmaster in Texas, as an adult leader in Iran, and finally as a volunteer docent at the National Scouting Museum in Irving. Professionally, Hal shifted away from work in electronics to apply his talents for drawing and visualization to architectural and engineering drafting and to retail fixture design. In addition to working with the Scouts, Hal served the St. Mary’s Episcopal parish in Irving as newsletter editor and as a member of a team who remodeled the church parish hall. Always an avid reader and self-taught scholar, in his later years Hal devoted himself to developing a richer understanding of the connections among German philosophy, the events of World War II, the Holocaust, and the history of Jewish state of Israel. Hal is survived by his wife Edith, his son Michael and his partner Mary, and several nieces and nephews. Hal will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and those he served in the community. A funeral mass is to be held at St. Mary’s Anglican Church in Irving on Saturday, September 6, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. with a reception immediately following in the church’s parish hall.
