Obituary for Donald J. Miller

Donald J.  Miller
Donald J. Miller, of Irving, Texas died on September 6, 2014. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio on June 18, 1940 to William and Mary Miller. He graduated with a degree in Art Education from Ohio University and a master degree in Educational Administration from Case- Western Reserve. He was married to his high school sweetheart, Pat Bechke for 48 years. Don retired in 2005 after working for over 40 years in student/college administration at Colgate University in Hamilton, NY, at Jefferson County Community College in Watertown, New York and at the University of Dallas in Irving, Texas. In his retirement he was very active in the Irving Senior exercise programs, Irving Arts Council and the Irving Heritage Society. He served also on Irving’s School District Improvement Committee. Don will be remembered as caring neighbor, a great father and an even better grandfather. He was known for a positive upbeat outlook, love of hole-in-the wall diners, harness racing, and his enthusiasm for his adopted hometown, Irving, Texas. He is predeceased by his beloved wife, Pat Miller who died in 2011. Don’s faith has been a source of inspiration. He will be greatly missed by his son, Chris Miller of Irving, Texas, his daughter, Kathy Kuiper of North Kingstown, Rhode Island, son-in-law Ben Kuiper, and grandchildren Thomas Barker of North Providence, RI, Samuel Kuiper of North Kingstown, RI and Chelsea Kuiper of North Kingstown, RI. He will also be missed by his brother, Larry Miller of San Diego, California and brother- in-law Pete Bechke of Cleveland, Ohio. A Memorial Mass will be held at 1:30 P.M. on November 24, 2014 at the Church of the Incarnation at the University of Dallas. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a charity of your choice.
