Obituary for Ruby Mae Boothman (Pipes)

Ruby Mae Boothman (Pipes)
Ruby Mae Pipes Boothman, 93, of Irving, Texas left this world to be with the Lord on Friday, January 9, 2015 while residing in Wylie, Texas, losing her 8-year battle with Alzheimer's.
Ruby was born July 16, 1921 in Frankston, Texas to parents John Willie and Elizabeth "Lizzy" Ann Morris Pipes. Ruby is the 6th child of 7: Brother Cecil Gordon Pipes, sister Berniece Elizabeth Pipes Webb, brothers Frank Smith Pipes, John Morris Pipes, Robert Felton Pipes and younger sister Edith Ann Pipes Early.
In 1923, at the age of 2, the Pipes family moved from Jacksonville, Texas to Dallas on a two-day train trip, residing on the Hulsey Farm off Brookhollow Road, across from the then Brookhollow Country Club. Ruby's father, J.W. Pipes was the original breeder of the well-known Hulsey Rooster around 1931. Ruby attended Obadiah Knight and Crozier Tech schools in Dallas and played a part in the historical protection of the Crozier Tech school as it stands today. Ruby was a young girl during the Great Depression; she learned at an early age the value of money and the importance of resourcefulness and responsibility. A story of the effect the Depression had on her dates back to a classmates birthday party she attended when she was 10 years old. The mother had baked a birthday cake with favors inside and told her daughters' friends that if they found a favor in their slice of cake, it was theirs to keep. When she cut Ruby's slice, a dime fell from the slice. She looked at Ruby and told her it was hers. Ruby was beside herself, having received a dime. To her it was a million dollars. And what do you think she spent it on?.....Not a thing. She kept it in her jewelry box, never spending it and kept it as a reminder of that time and the effect it had on her.
On July 7, 1947 Ruby married the love of her life, LeRoy Oscar "Peg" Boothman of East St. Louis, Illinois after his honorable discharge as a World War II Army Sergeant stationed in Morocco and then Dallas Love Field. They moved to Irving, where they raised their family and where Ruby lived until last September. LeRoy owned L.O. Boothman Tile Company out of Irving, Texas until his death in May 1966. Ruby worked as a seamstress to raise her children. She loved being a hostess to parties and get-togethers with family and friends, as well as, cooking, crafting, sewing and gardening. She was a lifetime member of the Kirkwood Methodist Church, Irving, TX.
Ruby is survived by her children: son Frankie Lee Boothman of Wetumpka, Alabama; son John William Boothman and wife, Cathy, of Hillsboro, Texas and daughter Zona Lisa Boothman Light and husband, Gary of Wylie, Texas. Four Grandchildren: John Felton Boothman, Jason Bradley Light, Misty Therese Boothman-Roesel and John William Boothman II. Seven great-grandchildren: Audra Mackenzie Boothman, Hannah Nichole Boothman, Kennadi Winter Boothman, Brady Everett Light, Macey Elizabeth Light all from Texas; Meison Chaun and Luca Roesel of Germany. She is also survived by brother Robert Felton Pipes of Terrell, TX, sister Edith Ann Pipes Early of Irving, along with six nieces and nephews and many great nieces and nephews. Ruby has dear, close and long-time friends surviving her: Frank and Joanne Maykus of Irving, David and Gail Lowery Briggs of Irving, Ernestine Dollins of Chester, TX and Don and Dorothy Lewis Hargrave of Midlothian, TX to name just a few of the many.
Ruby is preceded by her husband, Leroy Oscar Boothman, siblings Cecil Gordon Pipes, Berniece Elizabeth Pipes Webb, Frank Smith Pipes and John Morris Pipes. Ruby is also preceded by her sweet and loving miniature Dachshund, Kitcell.
Funeral service will be held Thursday, January 15, 2015, 2:00 pm at Ben F. Brown's Memorial Funeral Home, Irving, TX, Doyle Ives officiating. Pallbearers: Grandsons: John Felton Boothman, Jason Bradley Light, John William Boothman II, nephew Brian Pipes, great-nephew Jordan Eagans and son-in-law Gary Light. Ruby's life was full of love, laughter, family, friendships and 93 years of history and memories that will follow for generations. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and life-long friend whose loving hospitality was shared with all. She is the epitome of love, resourcefulness and endurance. Grace and peacefulness will endure - 2 Peter: 11-12.
