Obituary for John Piner Wever Jr.

John Piner Wever Jr.
John Piner Wever, Jr. died peacefully on Thursday, January 22, 2015 at the age of 94 surrounded by family. John was born in Texarkana, Texas on August 21, 1920 to Susie Mae Daniel and John Piner Wever, Sr. He adored his brother Hoskins who was 12 years older. He grew up in New Boston, Texas surrounded by family on every corner. His father was a doctor and owned the pharmacy in New Boston. John says he drove the Buick to school in the first grade!!! John was an Eagle Scout. He went to The University of Texas in Austin to study Chemical Engineering. In his third year at UT, John accompanied his father to New York City for treatment for cancer. They heard the news of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor while in New York. John had completed his third year at UT when he received his draft notice. He joined the army and was assigned to the Chemical Warfare Division. He served in the Pacific Theatre in Sydney, Australia, New Guinea and the Philippines. (When is granddaughter Roxanne had her wedding in Fredericksburg, Texas he was fascinated by the Admiral Nimitz Museum of the Pacific War. His friend Dick Carlson said he wanted to go through the exhibit on New Guinea three times.) After WW II John finished his degree at UT. Then he worked at Red River Arsenal in Texarkana where he hired chemist Bob Schiegg. They decided to start a Chemical Company which became Ecco Chemicals in Dallas, TX. Their partnership and successful company manufacturing industrial cleaning compounds lasted several decades. They developed a product called Third Hand that would clean just about anything. John and Bob were making innovative products in the early days of the car wash business. In his 70's John travelled to Korea and Japan as a consultant to car wash businesses in those countries and enjoyed the culture and friendships that grew out of these relationships. In his 80's John was consulting for Metal Rehab in Arlington. It is easy to see that John loved the chemical business and worked longer than most people because he enjoyed staying busy. On October 20, 1961 John married Martha Sue Criswell Egger and started a new chapter in his life. He was a confirmed bachelor and Martha, a widow, had 2 children, Rod and Debby. John shared his love of animals with his new kids and once they had an Easter chicken that rode back to Dallas on the bumper of his car! There were rabbits, dogs, cats, etc. to follow. The word step father was never used. The Egger family embraced John as one of their own and he loved visiting West Texas and all of the relatives in Martha's family. Everyone loved John because he is just easy to love. He raised Debby and Rod as his own children. They never adopted his name out of respect to their grandparents, Jewel and Alvie Egger who loved John like a son. It is such a tribute to his kind and easy going manner and commitment to family. John was very active in the lives of his new children and shared his experience as an Eagle Scout with Rod. He was also very close to his brother’s girls, Skipper and Jan. He loved his nieces and they knew it. John and Martha travelled extensively in Europe. They enjoyed sharing their photos and adventures on these trips. Later Martha accompanied John to Korea for one of his business trips. In 1985 life for Martha and John changed dramatically. Their first grandchild, Timothy Wever Jett was born. Then came Roxanne and Victoria and more fun than they had ever imagined. Granny and Dandad were at the hospital for every birth, even in the middle of the night. Always eager to babysit, then later attending games and recitals, John and Martha were very involved. John even drove a field trip to the aquarium for Timothy's class. Of course he knew all of the answers to every question about the fish!! They were present for high school and college graduations. In 2006 Liz and Tyler Allbright were added to the family and Granny and Dandad embraced them as their own. The absolute best was that Granny and Dandad were present for the weddings of Tyler and Sara and Roxanne and Riley. John was an avid reader and loved classical music. His hobby was gardening and he was famous for his tomatoes. He was also known for wearing caps and he had quite a collection. John was always curious and a lifelong learner. He was a great listener and always interested in the people around him. He was a man of honor, integrity and the highest moral character living out his faith daily. You would never hear him say an unkind or critical word about anyone, he was kind and caring and soft spoken. John was proud to be and American and always wore his flag pin and WWII cap. John left a legacy and will be missed by his family and friends. The family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers from New Century Hospice: Jennifer Horton, Karen Willett, Jason Potett as well as Cyntrell Haggray from Visiting Angels who was with John through to the end. Dr. Rey Marquino has been a wonderful doctor. John is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Hoskins Wever and is survived by his wife, Martha Criswell Wever; son Rod Egger; daughter Debby Allbright and husband her Bill Allbright; grandchildren Timothy Wever Jett, Roxanne Jett Sheehan and husband Riley, Victoria Jett, Elizabeth Allbright, Tyler and wife Sara Allbright ; nieces Georgia Wever and her daughter Merrit Wever; Jan Mosgovian and and her family: Carl, Danya, Noah, Rachel and Eden along with Susan Bloxham Garvin and husband Jim.
