Flor A. Smith passed away on Wed., February 25 at her home in Irving, Texas. Born in Sevilla, Spain, Flor was adopted by Irene A. Wright, a historian, and brought to the U.S. as an infant. She exceled in school, graduating from George Washington University at the age of 20. She worked for the Library of Congress and the Potomac Electric Power Company in Washington, D.C. before marrying Jennings T. Smith in 1954. Flor was a supportive wife and loving mother who devoted her life selflessly to her family and to helping community organizations. In Pelham Manor, N.Y., where she and her family lived for 29 years, she volunteered at the New Rochelle Hospital and with the Junior League. After she and her husband moved to Irving, Texas in 1990, she volunteered with the Irving Symphony, the Symphony League, the Las Colinas Women’s Association and was a member of the Irving Women’s Club. Flor is predeceased by her loving husband, Jennings, who passed away in 2007. She is survived by her daughters Kathryn Ryan of The Woodlands, Texas and Cinda Koehler of Dallas, Pennsylvania. Flor is also survived by grandson, Timothy and his wife Hayley, of the Woodlands, her grandson Daniel Ryan, also of The Woodlands, 2nd Lt. James Koehler, of Quantico, Virginia and Jonathan Koehler, also of Dallas, Pennsylvania. In Flor’s memory, in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Irving Community Clinic @ www.healthyirving.com, Irving Cares, the Irving Symphony League, or the Woodhaven Presbyterian Church of Irving. Visitation will be on Mon. March 2 from 6-8 pm at the Brown Funeral Home, 707 N. MacArthur Blvd., Irving, Texas 75061. A memorial service will be held on Tues. March 3 at 10 am at the Woodhaven Presbyterian Church 3650 N. O’Connor Rd., Irving, Texas 75062.
