Obituary for Frank Joe Maykus Jr.

Frank Joe   Maykus Jr.
Frank Joe Maykus, Jr.was the third child of Frank Maykus Sr. and Lois Cernoch Maykus, born on June 11, 1934. His parents were Czechoslovakian immigrants. He was a graduate of Forney High School and Midwestern State University. He married the love of his Life, Joann Yarbrough on July 15, 1955. They were to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary this year. Frank was the father to Kosse Kyle Maykus, Stephanie Jo Lagow, and Rene Maggie Crow. He was also the PaPa to Drew Austin Lagow, Eason Price Maykus, Lacey Reagan Moehnke, Kyle Carrington Crow, Sasha Ruth Maykus, Mallie McCall Crow, and Sierra Rhea Maykus and 3 great grandchildren Noelle Lagow, Madison Moehnke, and Allie Lagow. Frank escaped abject poverty with the award of a football scholarship to Midwestern State University. Frank exhibited great courage and grit in everything he did. This grit led to a life of great accomplishment. He was an All- State Football player, played in the North South Texas Coaches All Star Game, and was inducted into 2nd class of inductees for Forney High school Hall of Fame. After graduating from college, Frank and Joann moved back to Irving, Texas where Frank embarked on career in home building, land development, and public service. Frank had a passion for home building and created many of Irving’s finest homes and neighborhoods. His public service included his service in the Texas National Guard for 10 years, his service as a member of the Irving Independent School district and a term as the board president, along with the term he served as a member of the Texas Association of School Boards. Frank was active member of Irving Homebuilders Association and served a term as its President. He built and donated the Irving Center for the Arts, was a founder and major stockholder of Civic Savings and Loan, named Young Man of the Year by the Jaycees in 1969, and was an active Board Member of the Irving Jaycees, Irving YMCA, and the First United Methodist Church. Frank was a strong supporter and believer of the Irving Schools Building trades program, passionate supporter of the Habitat for Humanity, and resident of Irving for 57 years. Frank leaves his family and many friends who will miss his stories, his wisdom, his hugs, his generosity, and the example of a life full of living. We will miss you! A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at Irving First United Methodist Church with interment immediately following at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, March 31, 2015 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM and requests memorial donations to Irving First United Methodist Church’s Chapel Fund 211 W. 3rd Street, Irving, TX 75060.
