Obituary for Bill Porter

Bill  Porter
Bill Porter, age 90, of Irving, Texas passed away Tuesday, June 30, 2015. He was born May 31, 1925 in McKinney, Texas to Robert Lee Porter and Zeffie (Bradley) Porter. Bill graduated from McKinney High School in 1941. Bill proudly served in the 1st Marine Infantry Division of the United States Marine Corps from 1941-1946. He served in Okinawa, Pelilleu, and Pavouvou where the Marines fought in some of the most severe combat in US history. On October 25, 1946, he married Louise Anderson in Dallas. He worked for Varel Manufacturing Company for 46 years where he retired as Vice President of Sales. He traveled extensively all over the world solving drilling issues and selling rock bits for drilling. He was a member of the Plymouth Park United Methodist Church of Irving. Bill enjoyed life and was very grateful for his many blessings. He always had a joke to tell. His sense of humor made him a natural salesman.His character and integrity defined him. He is survived by his son, Keith Porter, of Irving, Texas; daughter, Karen Akin Myers and husband John Myers of Fischer, Texas; grandson Justin Akin and wife Kristin Akin of Chesterfield, Missouri; great grandson William Akin; friend, Jean Wilson. He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Porter, his sister, Anita Porter, his brother, Robert Porter, and his great grandsons Matthew and Andrew Akin. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, July 2, 2015 at Plymouth Park Methodist Church, Irving, TX with Dr. Bill La Barr officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Plymouth Park Methodist Church of Irving, 1615 West Airport Freeway, Irving, TX, 75062.
