Obituary for Harry McClellan Means

Harry McClellan  Means
Harry McClellan Means, born February 27, 1923 to Asa McClellan & Naomi Means in Fort Worth, Texas, passed on July 11, 2015. He moved to Dallas at age seven and graduated from Sunset High School in 1940. At nineteen, he signed with the U.S. Navy and was stationed at Dallas Naval Air Station. From there, he was assigned to the USS Hancock where he worked with target drones. He was on the USS Alabama at the signing of the peace treaty of the Pacific Front in Tokyo Bay. After being discharged from active service, he studied aircraft mechanics and worked for Aviation Activities and Bell Helicopter until retirement in 1987. “Pops” loved helicopters, deer hunting, ice cream, great cars, Tootsie (his cat), and fixing clocks. As a longtime resident of Irving, he regularly attended Plymouth Park United Methodist Church where he served as an usher for many years and participated in the Methodist Men’s group. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Eva Gallatin Means, and their daughters and husbands: Vicki & Tony Batman, Jeanne & Stan McGlothlin, Terri & Andy Callaway, and Karen & Mike Dattilo; eight grandchildren: Nick (& wife Anna) & Brock Batman, Preston & Brett McGlothlin, Harrison & Caroline Cotton, Philip & Katelyn Dattilo; and extended family and friends. Service of Life will be held on July 15, at 3:00 PM at Plymouth Park United Methodist Church, 1615 W. Airport Freeway, Irving, TX 75062. Visitation will be July 14, 6:00-8:00 PM at Brown’s Memorial Funeral Home, 707 N MacArthur Blvd, Irving, TX 75061. Memorials donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
