Obituary for Mary Frances Bailey (Potts)

Mary F. Bailey, age 87, of Irving, Texas died on July 13, 2015, at Avalon Home after a lengthy illness.
Mary was born November 21, 1927, in Bonham, Texas to Mr. and Mrs. Grady Lee Potts. The second of six children, she graduated from Denison High School in 1945. She married Don William (Bill) Bailey, Jr. on August 15, 1948, at First United Methodist Church in Denison. They lived in Denison, Texas nearly 8 years before moving with their infant son to Irving, Texas in 1956.
She was a member of Eastern Star in Irving. She taught kindergarten at Little Peoples in Irving. She was employed at Braniff International Airlines for 13 ½ years, followed by a few years at UCCEL. After retirement, Mary was a founding member of the DFW Ambassador Volunteers, where she served for many years.
A loving and devoted mother and grandmother, Mary supported her children and grandchildren at swim meets, marching band practices and events, along with various classroom and school events. She and her family attended St. Stephen’s Presbyterian Church in Irving for many years. Since 1984, she and her husband have been members of First United Methodist Church in Irving where they were members of the Homebuilders and Pathfinders Sunday School classes.
She and Bill enjoyed many years of square dancing when she was in town. But they truly loved to travel. Together, and with family and friends, she has been to Switzerland, Czechoslovakia, Italy, Hungary, Amsterdam, England, and British Columbia. She also visited many parts of the United States, including multiple trips to the Hawaii Islands, which she loved dearly.
She is survived by her loving spouse of nearly 67 years, Bill Bailey; her son, Don Wayne Bailey, and his wife, Mary Wilder Bailey; her daughter, Deborah Bailey Bellew, and her husband, Jimmy Bellew; her grandsons, Daniel Wayne Bailey and Jonathan Wayne Bellew. She has two living sisters, Wanda Potts Ramey of Denison, Texas and Sarah Potts Delgado of Houston, Texas. She is also survived by various nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, Grady Lee Potts; her mother, Zenobia Allen Potts; her brothers, Robert Potts and David Potts; and sister, Ruby Potts Howell.
Visitation will be at Brown Funeral Home the evening of Thursday, July 16, 2015, from 6:00-8:00.
