Obituary for Opal Davis (Yancey)

Opal Davis, longtime Irving resident, died at age 97 on September 17, 2015. Her journey began in Emory, Texas where she was born to Hassie and May (Scroggins) Yancey on August 21, 1918. Opal devoted most her time to nurturing and caring for her family and was a devoted wife and mother. She was also a talented artist, who painted mostly with oils. Opal was skilled at sewing, embroidery and applique. Her talent with her hands also extended to the kitchen, as she was a wonderful cook. Opal is preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Frank A. Davis, in 2005, sister Dorothy Plummer and two great-grandchildren, Rachel and Matthew Johnson. She will be forever missed and cherished by her daughters Bettye Cole and husband Will; Marye Jo Petty and husband Bill and Doris LaFlower and husband David, all of Irving; sister Lois Fischer of Mesquite; six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, along with many other loving family and friends. A funeral service will be held at 9:00 AM on Monday, September 21, 2015 in Brown’s Memorial Funeral Chapel with Pastor Leon Adkins officiating. Burial to follow at 12:30 PM at Emory City Cemetery in Emory, Texas. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, September 20, 2015 from 3:00 to 5:00 PM.
