Obituary for Clyde Ray Dumas

Clyde Ray Dumas
Clyde Ray Dumas, passed away in the early morning of November 4, 2015 while surrounded by family. Clyde leaves behind his wife of 45 years, Barbara Gail Dumas; his daughter and son-in-law, Crystal and Richard Sheffield; his grandson and granddaughter-in-law, Christopher and Cecilia Dumas; his son, Steve Dumas; his daughter, Lisa Harris and son-in-law, Sid Harris; brother, Bob Dumas; his granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Stephanie and Brandon Barbaro; and other loving extended relatives. Clyde was born on January 3rd, 1936, in Hillsboro, in the midst of the Great Depression. Clyde is a member of the Waco High School graduating class of 1954. After 2 semesters at Baylor University, Clyde joined the United States Air Force where he faithfully served his country for four years stationed primarily in Newfoundland. Clyde earned an honorable discharge and the Good Conduct Medal awarded for character and efficiency ratings of excellent or higher throughout his service tenure.
After his military service, Clyde began his professional career as a service technician for Monroe Calculator Company where he repaired and maintained various models of early calculating machines. While performing this duty, he obtained an Associate of Applied Science in Electronics degree. During his time at Monroe, Clyde was a member of the Elks Club, and he also joined the Irving Jaycees, serving on the board in 1967 and held the position of State Director in 1968 and 69. After 19 years of service at Monroe, Clyde resigned in 1980 to pursue entrepreneurial interests and to achieve a personal goal of becoming his own boss before reaching 20 years at Monroe. Clyde opened and managed several businesses in the city of Irving including a jewelry store, a pizza restaurant, and his beloved pawn shop, AAction Jewelry and Loan Company. Clyde was a contributor in the foundation of the Irving Pawnbrokers Association and served as its President in 1991 and 1992. In 1994, Clyde retired from work to enjoy the benefits of his labors.
During his working career, Clyde met the love of his life, Barbara, who was his lifelong companion. They enjoyed dancing, traveling, boating, and riding motorcycles together. After 15 years of marriage, Clyde and Barbara were blessed with their only child together, Crystal and six weeks later, their grandson Christopher. Through the years, they took many family trips together, several of which were RV trips through the US. Upon retirement, Clyde, Barbara, and Crystal split time between their home in Irving and their ranch in Meridian, TX. Clyde tended to his horses, cows, goats, and chickens, including an ornery rooster. When Barbara retired a few years later, the family moved to their beautiful home overlooking Lake Whitney where they enjoyed spending time on the lake and working around the house.
Although Clyde accomplished many things in his life, his friends and family remember him for his adventurous spirit and charming smile. Whether you knew him as Ray-Ray, Old Yeller, Uncle Clyde, Old Man, Pa-Pa, Daddy, or simply Clyde, having known him is a blessing to all of us. A memorial service will be held at Brown’s Memorial Funeral Home, 2:30 PM Sunday November 8, 2015.
