Monica N. Cortez, lifelong Irving resident, entered the gates of heaven on January 11, 2016 at the age of 27. Her life journey began in Dallas on January 14, 1988 when she was born to Samuel N. and Donna McCormick. Monica will be remembered for her extremely outgoing and helpful nature. She could easily turn a bad day around with her contagious laughter and caring spirit. Monica loved nature and being outdoors which included a genuine passion for the care and welfare of animals. She was also a huge Philadelphia Eagles fan. Monica was reunited in heaven with her grandparents Robert F. and Henrietta F. Cortez. She will be forever missed and never forgotten by her beloved wife Valerie Cortez; parents Samuel and Donna McCormick; sister Candice Cortez and husband Damien Galloway; step-daughter Maddison, and their cherished pets, Fitzgerald, John and Kennedy, along with many special nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Joel Bako at 10:00 AM on Saturday, January 16, 2016 in Brown’s Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with interment immediately following at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens in Irving. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Friday, January 15, 2016 with a recitation of the rosary at 7:00 PM.
