Obituary for Gerald Belk Watson

Gerald Belk  Watson
Gerald Belk Watson, Irving resident, formerly of Oklahoma, died on February 2, 2016. His life began on January 13, 1921 in Jenks, Oklahoma. Gerald proudly served his country during World War II in the United States Air Force and then earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Oklahoma City College. Gerald put his passion and talents to use as a Social Work Manager for both the State of Oklahoma and the State of Texas, being recognized twice with awards from the Mayor of San Antonio for his advocacy and tireless efforts to acquire and procure social services for the underprivileged throughout his career. Along with being a veteran and champion for the less fortunate, he was also a devout Catholic and parishioner at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Irving. Gerald is preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Grace Marie in 2007, and will be forever missed by his present wife, Edith of Irving; daughters Debbie Robeson and husband Robert of Fort Worth and Janet Watson of Nashville, TN; the beautiful family he joined in marriage to his beloved Edith, that includes her son Bill Vita and wife Mary of The Colony; her daughters Karen Murphy and husband Dennis of Flower Mound, Ann Chittatil and husband Matthew and Susan Vita, both of Irving; granddaughter Angie Rawlings and her husband Brent of Nashville, TN; great-grandson Lukas Rawlings along with numerous other loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great grand-nephew Larry Byard, cousins, extended family member, friends and lives that he touched through his social work. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Adilso Balen at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, February 9, 2016 at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in Irving. A Committal Service with Military Honors will follow at the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery in Dallas at 1:00 PM. The family will receive friends at Brown’s Memorial Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Monday, February 9, 2016 with recitation of the rosary at 7:00 PM.
