Donald “Don” G. Davis, Denton resident and former longtime Irving resident, passed away in Denton on April 5, 2016. Don’s life journey began on October 20, 1937 in Collinsville, Texas where he was born to Bishop and Vera (Jenkins) Davis. He graduated from Gunter High School in 1955 and joined the United States Marine Corps in 1956. Don served proudly for four years, earning the rank of Sergeant and upon his discharge began his college education. He earned his undergraduate degree from SMU in 1971 and continued on to South Texas College of Law, completing his law degree in 1976. Don was an Assistant District Attorney in Dallas County for 21 years before becoming a Magistrate Judge for the City of Irving, until his retirement in 2013. Don was rejoined in Heaven with his parents and sister, Vera Turner, and will be forever missed and remembered as a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother by his beloved wife, Patricia Davis; three children Ken Davis, Craig Davis and Christi Davis Johnston; eight grandchildren Kyle, Cameron, Connor, April, Brittany, Madeleine, Mitch and Serenity; brother Roger Davis, sister Emma Gronemeier along with six great grandchildren. Don lived his life honoring and exemplifying the Marine Corps values of ethical and moral conduct, showing courage in all he did and was unafraid to stand for what he thought was right. He stood as an example that there was no such thing as a former Marine. ‘Once a Marine, always a Marine’. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:00 to 8:00PM on Friday, April 8, 2016. A funeral service to honor his life will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, April 9, 2016 in Brown’s Memorial Funeral Chapel in Irving. Committal Service with Military Honors will occur at the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery in Dallas on Tuesday, April 12th at 1:30 p.m.
