Obituary for Joseph Leroy "Joe" White

Joseph ‘Joe” Leroy White, Age 82 and Irving resident for 51 years, died Sunday, May 8, 2016. He was born in Edgewood, Texas on February 2, 1934 to Marvin and Leoaner (Lawrence) White. Joe had many accomplishments throughout his life; he proudly served in the United States Army; drove for Merchants Motor Lines for 38 years, retiring in 1996, during which time he established a record of 3 million accident free miles. In Joe’s down time, he enjoyed scrapping and dumpster diving, helping his friends, neighbors and his church, any way he could; however he was always late, and could never arrive on time but rather he arrived on Joe time. He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers Alfred, Harold and Ed White; sisters Fran Borchard, Irene McGinnis, Dorothy Husky and Rosemary Collmer. Left to cherish his memory is wife of 60 years Jean White of Irving; son Roger White of Irving; daughter Sheila Emerson and husband Russ of Montague; grandchildren Courtney and Trevor White of Irving and Les Emerson of Crittenden, KY; daughter in law Laura White along with numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held 1:00 pm, Friday, May 13, 2016 at the funeral home, followed by a committal with Military Honors at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Thursday, May 12, 2016 between the hours of 6:00 and 8:00 pm.
