Obituary for J. Winston Farmer

J. “Winston” Farmer, age 89, died Sunday, May 8, 2016. He was born in Pilot Point, Texas on October 3, 1926 to Jess C. and Valeria (Hinsley) Farmer. Winston graduated from Irving High school in 1944. He had such a strong desire to serve his country that at the young age of 17, he immediately joined the U.S. Navy, where he sailed around the world and served during World War II. Winston later became the owner of Farmer Electric Motor Service, in Irving for 60 years, and a longtime member of Westside Church of Christ in Irving. He is preceded in death by his parents; left to cherish his memory is wife of 68 years, Bonita Farmer; daughter Cherie Farmer and husband Stephen Schaub; son Greg Farmer and his wife Gaile; grandchildren Nash Farmer, Gabrielle Loehr, and Kristin Loehr; great grandchildren Harris and Gavin Singh along with several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held 2:00 pm, Thursday, May 12, 2016 at the Brown’s Memorial Funeral Home; a committal service with Military Honors will immediately follow at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at the funeral home between the hours of 5:00 and 7:00 pm.
