Obituary for John Lee Cottrell

John Lee  Cottrell
John Lee Cottrell, of El Dorado, Arkansas, died on June 18, 2016, in Southlake, Texas. He had spent his last twelve days saying goodbye to his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren before simply falling asleep. He was born in Three Creeks, Arkansas, on December 21, 1920.
He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-four years, Delphine Campbell Cottrell; his parents, Monroe Cottrell and Jessie Vines Bishop; his brother, Earl Cottrell; and his sister, Gladys Cottrell Duke; half -brothers, Clauzelle Bishop, Glen Cottrell, Jimmie Cottrell and David Cottrell also preceded his death. He is survived by his half-sister, Margie Cottrell Keeton and Clyde Keeton.
He is also survived by his daughters, Vickie Tatum and Gail Wingfield; son-in-law, Mahoney K. "Bud" Tatum; his grandchildren, John Tatum, Chris Tatum, Jill Wingfield Claxton, Mark Claxton, Scott Wingfield, Hayley Wingfield Ford; and twelve great grandchildren.
He joined Lion Oil Company in 1943and retired from Tosco Refinery after 40 years of service in 1983. He also joined Second Baptist Church in 1943 and remained a member until his death. He served as a deacon in the church for many years. He served on almost every committee in the church and taught senior high boys Sunday School for several years. He also volunteered once a week at Hudson Memorial Nursing Home form many years.
The family would like to express our gratitude to the staff and residents of Hudson Senior Center. He loved his years of residence there. We would also like to thank Billie Davis for her special friendship and care.
Services will be held at 11:00 am. Saturday, June 25, 2016 at Young's Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bill Odom and Chaplain Phil Pinckard officiating. A reception will follow at 12:00 p.m. and burial at 1:00 p.m. at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens under the direction of Young's Funeral Directors.
