Obituary for Willia Dean Munroe (Hodges)

Willia Dean Munroe (Hodges)
Willia Dean Hodges Munroe, mother, professional fashion illustrator, aviation advocate, and lover of all things that fly, earned her wings just before midnight on July 28, 2016. Willia, age 86, was born May 16, 1930, in Loraine, Texas, to Clifton and Grace Hodges. Willia is preceded in death by her husband, Donald Mitchell Munroe Jr.; father and mother, Clifton and Grace Hodges; infant brother, William; two sisters, Alma Jean Sealy and Annell Campbell; and, step son Donald Munroe III. After spending her youth in Roscoe, Texas, Willia moved to Denton to attend Texas Woman’s University, where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in art. A job offer took her to Austin, Texas, where she met Donald Mitchell Munroe. Willia and Don were married January 1, 1954, in Roscoe. Willia is survived by sons Clifton H. Munroe and Phillip T. Munroe; step son William F. Munroe and his wife, Laurie; brother-in-law, Kirk Munroe; daughter-in-law, Karla Munroe; grandchildren Justin and Mandy Munroe, Clifton Mitchell Munroe, Ryan and Catherine Munroe, Rikk and Katherine Munroe, Marc and Kellie Munroe, Kema Munroe, Don Munroe, and Ellie Munroe; great grandchildren Olivia, Gabriel, and Cayden Munroe; nephews and nieces Rusty Sealy, Andy and Karen Sealy, Lisa Campbell, Greg Campbell, Brenda and David O’Brien; great nephew and nieces, Colin, Caitlyn, and Casey O’Brien; and, special friend, Jim Kemper. With twinkling blue eyes, Willia had a ready smile, sense of humor, and an artistic and creative nature. Her natural curiosity about all things around her made it effortless for her to talk to anyone about almost anything. She touched the hearts of all who knew her and of those she met briefly. Willia was an “angel incognito” and will be greatly missed. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, August 6, 2016, 2:00 p.m., at Woodhaven Presbyterian Church, 3650 N. O’Connor Road, Irving, TX 75062.
