Obituary for Regina Story

Print
Mary Regina Patterson (Regina Story) was born in Enloe, Texas on July 11, 1929 to Harry and Louise Nanney Patterson. She is survived by loving husband George. They were husband, wife and friends for 53 years. Also surviving to cherish her memory are two sons, Bob and Richard who followed their example of a loving marriage. Bob has been married to Laurie for 41 years and Richard married to Katy for 36 years. Regina is survived by five grandchildren, MAJ Robert Hurst, United States Marine Corps, Richard Hurst, Reverend Chris Hurst, Louellen Lowe, and Adam Hurst and seven great grandchildren, Krista, Annabelle, Barrett, Joshua, Isabelle, Brock, and Rena. She not only leaves behind her family, but also numerous friends. She requested that we tell family and friends how much she loved you, especially wanting the members of First Christian Church to know how much she loved and appreciated you and how your love kept her going. Tim, please remember how much she admired and loved your playing. Walter, she accompanied many choir directors over the years but was especially fond of you. Deb, words can’t describe the love and admiration she had for you. But, and I quote her, “I love you.” She graduated from Cooper High School and earned degrees from East Texas State University and Southern Methodist University. Her entire teaching career was in the Irving School System where she taught English, organized the MacArthur Cardettes, was the first woman vice-principal and administrator, and served as the English consultant. After retirement, she was active in a number of organizations. Regina was past president of the Irving Heritage Society; past president of PEO; and served on the board of several music and theatre organizations. She was a long time secretary of the Delta County Patterson Museum’s board of directors and served on Irving’s first Museum advisory board. In August of 2008, she and George were named as high-spirited Citizens. And not to be forgotten, also a long time member of the Tuesday Bridge Club. Regina was an active member of First Christian Church where she was a deaconess and served as organist for more than 40 years. She retired when her grandparents needed her attention and then returned as volunteer organist. She felt blessed to be able to serve her church and friends as organist. As a matter of fact, her favorite music was hymns. She asked that we celebrate her life with hymns, and three of her favorite majestic hymns were Holy, Holy, Holy; A Mighty Fortress is Our God; and All Hail the Power of Jesus Name. Regina was a friend to many, organist to the church, and mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother to her family. Regina Patterson Story will be sorely missed until we meet again in the kingdom of Heaven. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday, November 28, 2016, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Regina’s life will be celebrated on Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at First Christian Church, 104 West Grauwyler Road in Irving. Burial will occur on Wednesday, November 30, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. in Oak Lawn Cemetery in Cooper, Texas. The family requests memorials to Delta County Patterson Memorial Museum by mail to C/O Enloe State Bank, PO Box 71, Cooper, TX 75432, Attn: Donna King or to the music program at 1st Christian Church in Irving by mail at 104 W.
