Condolences

Condolence From: James Beaver
Condolence: I went out to The Hill tonight. The Hill was what Greg and Lon and Wallace and I called the Trinity riverbank out near the University of Dallas. We used to hang out there and scramble up and down the steep banks and throw rocks and tell tall tales and risk getting hit by the trains that crossed the trestle at that spot. But The Hill was also special for me and Greg. We would go out there and sit in the dark and listen to the frogs and whatever else lived in the woods there, and we would talk. That's where Greg and I became closest in our friendship, out there on that riverbank telling our secrets and fears and dreams to each other, consoling one another when we were sad or lonely, plotting wildly for our futures, and living the word friendship in its deepest. I went out there tonight, the night before Greg's memorial service, to try to feel some of the magic of that place and that friendship. But it was no good without Greg. I cannot imagine life without him. He was a pillar of the earth to me, a strong support I knew would always be there for me. I feel lost, knowing I can never sit on the bank of a river and talk to him of life and friendship. How much worse must it be for you, his family. I will love him forever.
