Gaylon D. McKnight, age 77, died peacefully Saturday, August 12, 2017. He was born in Paris, Texas to Jim and Lucille (Peikert) McKnight on March 15, 1940. Gaylon graduated from Butte High School in Montana, and attended college at University of Texas in Arlington. He served in the United States Marine Corp, and married Linda in 1959. Gaylon began his electrical career at Westinghouse in sales and continued his career with several electrical contractors, he spent the end of his career with Able Electric in Dallas, TX. He held a master electrician’s license and was the electrical project manager on many buildings, including the Reunion Arena, Lincoln Center, Dallas Morning News plant in Plano, restoration of the Dallas Music Hall along with numerous hospitals throughout the Southeast. He will be well remembered by the “old timers” in the electrical field. Gaylon was a jogger, belonging to Cooper Aerobics Center and enjoyed several marathons. His time in the Toastmasters gave him an opportunity to share his dry wit with others. Gaylon is preceded in death by his parents, son Gregory Scott McKnight and brother Robert McKnight. Left to cherish his memory is wife of 58 years, Linda (Hengy) McKnight of Irving; son Ken McKnight of Irving; daughter Laura McKnight-Schaefer of Lewisville; half-sister Jamie Clark of Kentucky; granddaughter Aleasha McKnight of Minneapolis, MN; grandson Kenneth Preston McKnight of Minneapolis, MN; twin grandsons Justin McKnight of Rowlett and James McKnight of Grand Prairie; grandson Tyler McKnight of Rowlett; granddaughter Katharine Schaefer of Dallas; uncle Gerald Powers of Kentucky; two great grandchildren, five nieces, five nephews along with numerous extended family and friends. Gaylon will always be remembered for the love he had for his family and will be deeply missed.
