Obituary for Ramona Lemons (Manning)

Ramona Lemons (Manning)
Ramona Dean (Manning) Lemons, age 89, of Irving, Texas passed away peacefully on February 25, 2018.

Born in Rush Springs, Grady County, Oklahoma on December 19, 1928, to Noble Manning and Ruby Lee (Newport) Manning, Ramona was raised there and in nearby Comanche County. She was her parents’ only daughter, and she had three brothers and a stepsister. She was a Christian and longtime and faithful member of MacArthur Blvd. Baptist Church in Irving.

Ramona and the one and only love of her life, Bennie Joe Lemons, her loving husband of 69 years, were married on March 22, 1948, in Brownfield, Texas, and he proceeded her in death on May 30, 2017. Now reunited in Heaven, they faithfully fulfilled their vows to one another throughout their life together. He continued until the end of his own life to refer to her as his “bride,” and onlookers often referred to them as “the sweetest couple.”

She was a mother and a homemaker and later worked as office manager in business with Bennie for many years. She loved little children, having raised three little boys of her own. When her family was young, she often kept the kids of others in her home, and as a young Christian mother she put in her share of time in the church nursery on Sunday mornings. In retirement, she and Bennie enjoyed their grandkids, the company of their close friends from their Sunday School class at MacArthur Blvd. Baptist Church, and RVing with those same friends and close family members from their generation.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Bennie; her parents; two brothers, James and Eldon Manning; stepsister Evelyn Bender; and her eldest son, Dennis Joe Lemons, Sr.

She is survived by a brother, Earl Manning; son Billy K. Lemons of Nacogdoches, Texas; son Sammy L. Lemons and wife, Debbie, of Abilene, Texas; daughter-in-law Monica (Lemons) Peelman and husband Eddie of McKinney, Texas; six grandchildren and their spouses, Jodi Lemons, Amanda Soto and husband Robert, Dennis Joe Lemons, Jr., and wife Lisa, Heath Lemons, Heather Bryant and husband Mitch, and Travis Lemons; and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Thursday, March 1, 2018 at Brown’s Memorial Funeral Home, 707 N. MacArthur Blvd. in Irving, Texas, with Pastor Ricky Primrose officiating. Burial will be at Restland Cemetery in Dallas, Texas. Pallbearers will be Heath Lemons, Dennis Joe Lemons, Jr., Robert Soto, Edward Peelman, Clif Clifton and Argus Beggs. The family will receive friends at the funeral home between 6:00 and 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 28, 2018.

The Lemons family would like to gratefully thank the Church family at MacArthur Blvd. Baptist Church of Irving, with special love and personal thanks to Clif & Patti Clifton, for all their acts of Christ’s personal love and caring during these past many years, and also to Heart to Heart Hospice for the loving care they provided to their mother and grandmother these past many years.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the MacArthur Blvd. Baptist Church Benevolence Fund.
