Allan Joseph  Ortiz
Allan Joseph Ortiz, age 89, died on Friday, May 4, 2018. Allan was born on October 19, 1928 in El Paso, Texas to Emilio Rito Ortiz and Amada (Cortez) Ortiz. Allan was a member of the American Volksmarch Association. He worked in the United States Navy as a radioman on an Ammo Ship in the Korean War from 1948 – 1952. Allan served 18 years as a volunteer for the Irving Police Department. He retired from the Army and Airforce Exchange Service, where he worked as a graphic designer. He was a longtime member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Irving. He was an avid Ham Radio Operator and was connected with people world-wide. Allan was also a founder of the Irving Star Trekkers Walking Club. Allan is preceded in death by his parents; brothers Joe Ortiz and Luis Ortiz; and sisters Rachel Jackson and Lucy Howard. Left to cherish his memory are sister Bertha Corsaut; his only wife of 47 years and mother of their four children, Patricia Needles Ortiz; children Nancy Khaleel, Jennifer Smolewski and husband Steve, Terry Attan and husband Billy and Tom Ortiz; grandchildren Quincy Davis and wife Areatha, Alex Khaleel and Raihan, Kamal Khaleel and wife Shannon, Caitlyn Lievano and husband Jose, Jasmine Khaleel, Michael Smolewski, Jillian Castro and husband Rudy, and Laurel Khaleel; great grandchildren Alissa Davis, Noura Khaleel, and Oliver Khaleel; as well as many loving nieces and nephews. A graveside Service with Military Honors will be held 11:00 am on Tuesday, May 8, 2018 at the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, TX 75211. The family requests memorial donations made to the American Alzheimer’s Disease Foundation, www.alz.org.
