Virginia “Joy” Dowdy of Irving passed away July 4, 2016. She was born on January 2, 1937 in Winnsboro, Texas to Hilton Monroe Whitworth and Avis Lorene (Truett) Whitworth. Joy lived previously in Clifton, Texas for 25 years. She worked as an accountant for Quigley Heating & Air. Preceded in death by her parents, Joy leaves behind to cherish her memory daughter Valerie Joy Thompson of Irving; sons James Franklin Thompson, Jr. and wife Donna of Clifton, Texas; Jonathan Douglas Thompson and wife Carolin of Tioga, Texas; Jay Hilton Thompson and wife Sherry of Arlington, Texas; grandchildren Aaron Thompson, Jason Thompson and wife Tawnya; Jennifer Dunn; James Thompson III and wife Tamera; Jacob Thompson; and Jon David Thompson; great-grandchildren, Jamie Dunn; Christian Dunn; Samantha Dunn; Mercury Thompson; Emeli-Lynn Thompson; Averitt Thompson and Eve Thompson; sister Ruby Holland and husband Jeff; brother William Jennings and wife Debbie. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at Brown’s Memorial Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Thursday at Cornerstone Church in Irving with interment to follow at 2:00 pm at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens in Irving.
