Obituary for Laurel E.H. Farmer (Steger)

Laurel E.H Farmer, age 95, died Sunday, August 28, 2016. She was born in Oakey, Queensland, Australia on December 12, 1920 to Fredrick Henry and Anna Marie Christina Steger. Laurel served in the United States Army Expeditionary Forces (Australia) from 1943 through 1946 during WWII, where she met her husband Phillip. On October 3, 1945 she and Phillip married and thence came to the United States via boat, arriving in Los Angeles, California in June of 1946. They initially settled in Kansas City, Kansas where she worked as a secretary in a physician’s office while Phil attended school; after they relocated to Topeka, Kansas where they stayed for 11 years and were blessed to adopt their 2 wonderful children. In 1968 she and Phillip made the decision to make Irving their home, where they finished raising their children; and in the late 70’s, began her lifelong career as a real estate agent. Laurel was a member of Irving North Christian Church, where she attended faithfully. She is preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Phillip E. Farmer, daughter Pamela Lou Burton and four brothers. Left to cherish her memory is son Paul Thomas Farmer and wife Patricia; five grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews in the States and Australia including niece Jules Steger. Visitation will be held at Brown’s Memorial Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 6, 2016 between 6:00 and 8:00 pm. A funeral service will be held 10:30 am, Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at Irving North Christian Church with Reverend Chris Carathers officiating.
