Annette Celestine Williams, known as “Ann”, born Annette Thomas on May 18th, 1947, the 3rd of 12 siblings, to Adrian and Moultina Thomas. She passed away in Irving, TX at age 75 because of a fatal hit and run accident on the night of October, 19th, 2022.
As a young girl, Annette went to Petit Valley Girls R.C., and then at age 7 when the family moved, she enrolled at Diego Martin Primary School. The family relocated to Laventille, where she then went to Calvary R.C. school. She passed all her end of school exams, and at age 15, she finished school. As the eldest girl she took a very active role in raising her siblings, before getting married at age 19 to her first husband. Her resilience and strength were evident throughout her life. Very apparent was her passion for entrepreneurship. In 1971, she opened a concession stand selling snacks, drinks and other items. This business thread will continue throughout her life. Her life continued to blossom, and she became the mother of two boys, Kambon and Jomo, they were her heartbeat. As a person with a nature to take life in stride, no matter the situation, she did all she could to raise her two boys and manage her household. She worked in a pharmacy, was a security officer and did a variety of jobs in order to provide for her family. In the midst of this she accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and took on the charge to make disciples. She was pivotal in bringing many in our family to know Christ. She was very active in the church, sang in the choir, and did all that she can to volunteer and do missionary work.
In the early nineties, she made the difficult but sacrificial decision to relocate to the United States to try to create a better life for her sons and siblings. Her boys remained with her sister Joan, so they can continue their education. Annette stayed with her sister Bernadette in Brooklyn, NY and worked as a live-in home attendant in Connecticut. Seeking greater opportunity, she relocated to Texas to stay with her niece Jo-Ann in 1998. It is then that she met her husband, Kevin Williams, in the summer of 2000. Kevin and Annette were married in March 2001 and remained together, tied to the hip, until he passed away due to cancer in October 2018. During the years in Texas, she had so many accomplishments. She achieved several certificates in Home Health Aide and Home Daycare. She opened her home day care business and was continually always looking for ways to grow and improve. She purchased her first home and was attempting to acquire goods that she could trade and retail. Entrepreneurship was in her blood and family support and service ran through her veins. She loved celebrating all holidays, loved music and laughter, gathering with family and friends was essential. Annette was so proud of her two boys and their accomplishments, and it was her dream to return to Trinidad to be with them. While in Texas, she remained in service to God at her church and truly enjoyed the African Christian Ministry.
Annette was preceded in death by father Adrian Thomas, mother Moultina Thomas, siblings Kenneth, Leon, Cynethia, Ingrid, Lucille and Charmaine.
Annette is survived by her sons, Kambon and Jomo; sisters Bernadette, Hannifa, Joan; brothers Tyrone, Wayne; sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and a host of loving friends that is more like family than friends.
