Obituary for Ardis G. Craighton

Ardis Geraldine (Evenstad) Craighton was born in Grand Forks and raised in Reynolds, North Dakota on December 12,1928 to Oscar and Beda Evenstad. Ardis died peacefully at home in Euless, Texas on February 10, 2021.

She is survived by her six children - two sons, Leslie of Euless, Texas, and Dale of Yuma, Arizona; and four daughters Carol (Henry) Poland of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Diane Thorburn of Euless, Texas; Janice Craighton of Arlington, Texas and Doris Craighton Kopitke of Euless, Texas. Ardis had six grandchildren, Shanda (Douglas) Thompson, Salena (Kenny) Newman, Melissa (CJ) Flanagan, and Joshua, Jeremiah, and Angie Craighton and one great grandson, Ayden Craighton. Ardis was preceded in death by her husband, Walter; mother, Beda; father, Oscar; brother, Gerald Leland; and son in laws: Richard Funk and James Kopitke.

Ardis graduated valedictorian and moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota when she was 18 years old to attend travel school. When she finished, she was offered a job in Chicago, but she liked Minneapolis, so she got a job at Western Union. While working at Western Union she worked for Room and Board taking care of a surgeon's children. Ardis enjoyed roller skating on her day off where she met and eventually married Walter Craighton on May 26, 1951. They were married for 66 years. When Leslie was a year old, she started day care in her home. She received $2 a day and it included breakfast and lunch. She had done day care for 33 years when she retired April 1, 1987; just in time to enjoy her grandchildren.

Ardis' greatest achievement was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother and anyone close to her knew of her love of ice cream. Ardis loved God and was faithful in his service until the end.
