Bernard Joseph Porter, age 84, passed away into heaven on February 20, 2021 after complications with COVID-19. He was born in Leavenworth, Kansas on June 7,1936 by Everett Leo and Elizabeth Mary (VanVeghten) Porter.
Joe married Karen Huffman on September 17, 1965. Joe loved being with his family doing yard work and especially enjoyed hunting and fishing with his brothers. He drove for a few different trucking companies the majority of his life, earning him the "Safe Driving Award" for nine consecutive years that also included over one million accident-free miles. Joe was humorous, humble, trustworthy, charitable, and loving to all those who knew him. His personality was so genuine and friendly, people that just met him would smile and laugh with him. He was a devoted Catholic and long time parishioner of St. Luke's Catholic Church in Irving, Texas.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Everett and Elizabeth Porter; Brothers Elmer Porter, Ed Porter, Larry Porter, and Leo Porter; Sisters Mary Elizabeth Porter Cutaia, Anna Marie Porter Wasserman, Dorothy Porter Kempin, and Theresa Porter Luton. Joe is survived by his wife of 56 years, Karen Huffman Porter; Children Andrea Porter Piwonka, Karen Rose Porter, Jeanne Porter Allen, Joe (Joey) Porter; Grandchildren Johnathon Allen and wife Kristen, Jace Allen and wife Lura, Jaycee Allen, Alec Hatley, Samantha Hatley, Victoria Hughes, Alexandra Piwonka, and Katherine Piwonka; Great grandchildren John Gabriel Allen, Joseph Becket Allen, and soon to be Porter Allen; Brother John Porter and very close nephew Vince and wife Carrie Cutaia in addition to special nieces, nephews and other loved family and friends. The family would like to thank everyone for their thoughts, prayers and Masses that were and will be said for our beloved Father who will be greatly missed by all.
The Rosary will prayed at St. Luke's Catholic Church, 202 S. MacArthur Blvd, Irving, 75060 on Thursday, March 4, 2021 at 9:30 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be held Calvary Hill Cemetery, 3235 Lombardy Ln, Dallas, 75220 at 1:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate any donations be sent to our Mother to assist with our Father's incurring medical costs.
