Obituary for Darryl Pope

Darryl Brent Pope left this earth on Friday, February 18th, 2022 in Irving, TX. Darryl was born on August 21st, 1958 to parents Homer and Imogene Pope in Irving. He graduated from Irving High School in 1977 and went on to receive numerous certifications with a specialty in HVAC and other trades.

He had a love for sports and coached football for many years at the Irving river bottoms. His favorite teams were the Dallas Cowboys and the Texas Rangers through the good times and the bad. Darryl loved all things involving music. This included playing and performing music as well as teaching and talking about music with anyone and everyone. Darryl enjoyed sharing his musical talents with his family, friends, and church, and was known for gifting many instruments to his nieces and nephews throughout the years. This passion and musical influence he helped instill is something that will carry on for generations to come.

Darryl is preceded in death by his parents Homer and Imogene Pope, his brother, Larry Pope, and his sister, Zona Franklin. He is survived by his three sisters, Delores White, Lavinia Harrison, and Marilyn Nemec, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins whom all he adored.

His family will dearly miss his presence, especially on holiday and family functions. His kindness and gentle soul, as well as his passion for music, will live on in our hearts. Until we meet again.

A celebration of his life is still being scheduled.

Donations can be made to this organization, Texas Music Project, who provides instruments to disadvantaged youth and brings hope through music. This is a cause close to Darryl’s heart.
