Obituary for Dick Bock

Richard “Dick” Bock passed away on February 22, 2022 in Irving, Texas at the age of 81. He was born November 28, 1940 to parents George and Enid Bock in Greencastle, Indiana. Dick went to Bainbridge, Indiana high school where he lettered in basketball and baseball. After graduation, he joined the Navy and was assigned to the U. S. S. Boston as a nuclear weapons specialist. After four years in the Navy, he attended the University of Colorado where he majored in engineering and marketing.

Dick’s early employment included service in the aerospace division of a major corporation, where he started an electronics quality control program, then customer service and regional sales. Dick joined MZB and Associates in Irving in 1979. He soon became vice president and sales manager. He was elected president in 1984 and purchased a majority of the company through the years. He sold MZB in 1995 to consider retirement. Dick realized that he was not quite ready, so he joined his son Tim at Digital Resources in 2008. When he was diagnosed with lung cancer in 2020, he finally retired.

His three sons have always been Dick’s pride and joy. When they were growing up, he loved to take them camping, fishing and golfing. He also coached all three; Dave and Dan in football and baseball and Tim in soccer. He continued to play golf with them until his last year. Tim fondly remembers a golfing trip to Pebble Beach where he and his dad finished the round with a cigar and whiskey. As adults, his three sons followed their dad into the industry. Recently, when they attended the yearly national convention together, the boys said they had to stop every ten feet to greet someone their dad knew from his many years as a pillar in the industry.

In 1993, Dick met Kay at the Byron Nelson Golf Tournament where they were introduced by mutual friends. They were married in 1995. Kay reports that he was a gift from God. One of Dick’s many talents was stained glass. When his step daughter was placed on the lung transplant list, he taught himself the art of stained glass to keep occupied while Kay was at the hospital. His beautiful work is currently in churches and homes of families and friends throughout our state and beyond.

Dick was a faithful attendee of Woodhaven Presbyterian Church in Irving. But above all, Dick will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. Dick is preceded in death by his mother, Enid Bock; father, George William Bock; sister, Karen Bock; and stepdaughter, Angi Jenkins. Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife, Kay Bock; sons Dave Bock and wife Martha, Dan Bock and wife Robin, and son Tim Bock and wife Wendy; stepdaughter, Kristi Lower and her husband Hal; grandchildren Ashley, Nick, Randi Leigh, Mary Kate, Cooper, Carson, Isaiah and wife Brittany, Allison, Emily, Sophie, Olivia, and Hallie; five great grandchildren; brother, Stan Bock; as well as numerous other family and friends who will miss Dick dearly.

Visitation will be held at Brown’s Memorial Funeral Home, 707 North MacArthur Blvd., Irving, Texas on Thursday, March 3, 2022 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.. A Memorial Service for Dick will be held 3:00 p.m. on Friday, March 4, 2022, at Woodhaven Presbyterian Church, 3650 N O'Connor Road, Irving, Texas 75062
