Obituary for Emmel Frelen Davidson

Emmel Frelen Davidson, 81, of Trinidad, Texas, died Wednesday, January 26, 2022 at Baylor Scott and White of Grapevine with his family by his side.

Born in Monroe, Arkansas to Elva Joslin and Henry Julius Davidson on February 16, 1941, he was the passionate patriarch of the newer Davidson family, and in the true spirit of that, kept his children’s welfare in mind. As he neared the end of his life, he would frequently tell them to “go home and relax,” a statement often met with laughter from all in the room.

Emmel did things his way up until the very end. He was known to have the same daily routine for the majority of his life: get up, bathe himself, get the paper, make the coffee, and, in his words, “try to stay out of trouble.” This love of routine came from Emmel’s time in the military: for 20 years, he served in the United States Air Force, obtaining the rank of Technical Sergeant and traveling all over the world serving the country he loved. He went wherever the service called him, whether it was as far away as Germany or as close as Carswell AFB in Fort Worth. His favorite, however, was the time he spent in Moron, Spain. It was in Spain that he met his wife, Manuela, and married her in Zaragoza. He frequently recounted the story of their many dates, the planning of which was mainly by letter and thus took, in his words, “a lot of blind hope.”
Together, Emmel and Manuela were married for over 45 years, and to their union were born three sons: James Harvey, Robert Carlos, and Anthony “Tony” Richard Davidson. Emmel passed his fierce love of country & infallible bravery to all of his descendants. In the later half of his life, Emmel took on perhaps his favorite and most challenging role yet: grandpa. His three grandchildren, Lou, Henry, and Lillie Davidson, all adored him and will miss him immensely.

He is preceded in death by his wife Manuela, sister Amelie and parents Elva & Henry. Surviving him are his three sons & their families: James Harvey Davidson, Lynn Davidson, and their children Lou & Henry Davidson of Vancouver, Washington; Robert Carlos Davidson, wife Shawn Davidson and their daughter Lillie Davidson of Arlington, Texas, and Anthony Richard Davidson of Panama City, Florida. He also leaves behind four siblings: Henry A. Davidson of Houston, Texas; Emma Dean Hathaway of Utah, Anna Bell Chandler of Raleigh, North Carolina, and Harvey Doyle Davidson of Argyle, Texas.
