Obituary for Jan Thompson - McCuistion

Janis (Jan) Ann Thompson McCuistion was born in Temple, Texas on February 19, 1950 and left this earth to be with Jesus on March 9, 2022. She was a 1968 graduate of Irving High School and received a degree in elementary education from North Texas State University in 1972. She spent a few years teaching before she went to work with John for the rest of her career. Her most treasured role, however, was as a wife to John and mother to Amy, Randy, and Carly. After dating in high school, Jan married John McCuistion during their college years. They made their first home in Irving, Texas where they have remained since. Jan spent over 35 yearsworking part time in John’s office while traveling around the world with her three life-long friends, famously dubbed “The Cruise Club.”

Jan spent her childhood and many years of her adult life at First United Methodist Church of Irving where she actively served in numerous roles. She spent her last years as a faithful member of Plymouth Park Baptist Church.

She will be remembered for her devotion to faith, family, and friends. Her family and numerous friends remember the way she nurtured them. Her home-cooked meals, words of encouragement and friendship will forever be remembered by many who knew and loved her. Loving children in addition to her own, being an example to younger mothers, and taking care of anyone she could, she lived a life truly devoted to the needs of others. Many young men and women grew up thinking of her as their second mother.

Jan is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, John McCuistion of Irving; daughter, Amy Jackson and husband Larry, of Keller, Texas; son, Randy McCuistion and wife Courtney, of Nevada, Texas; and daughter, Carly Abel and husband Robert, of Nevada, Texas. She is also survived by her 8 grandchildren who she loved dearly; John Carter, Cameron, and Colt Jackson of Keller, Texas; Tyler and Parker McCuistion of Nevada, Texas; and Clay, Cooper, and Katie Abel of Nevada, Texas. She is preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Martha Thompson; and in-laws Wayne and Doris McCuistion.
