Obituary for John "Johnny" L. Pike, Jr.

John “Johnny” L. Pike, Jr. passed away peacefully in his home on January 14, 2023. He was born on June 25, 1940, in Ardmore, Oklahoma, to Jane & Leonard Pike,
moving with the family to Irving in 1947. Though born with cerebral palsy and suffering from brain tumors which required multiple surgeries at a young age, his own faith and
that of his parents got him through those challenging years.

He married Martha Kincaid, whom he met at the grand opening of his father’s Duke & Ayers 5 & 10 store in Weatherford, Texas, on February 11, 1967. He would frequently say he “found his million-dollar baby in a 5 & 10 cent store.” John served as a homebound teacher.
in the Irving Independent School District for 37 years, educating students that were medically unable to attend school, instructing them in either their home or hospital room. He also taught.
Sunday School whenever asked and studied the bible every day. For the last 20 years, he and Martha faithfully attended First Irving, the same church he attended faithfully as a child with his parents when moving to Irving.

He loved his Texas Rangers and his hero was western movie star and singing cowboy, Gene Autry, with “Back in the Saddle Again” being his favorite song. After his love for the Lord, he loved his family, who will miss his bright colored suits, the cartoons he would clip out of the paper for everyone, and his endless jokes.

John is preceded in death by his parents, Leonard & Jane Pike and is survived by his wife of 55 years, Martha; daughters Joy Goodrum with husband Jason and Merri Padilla with husband Isaac, granddaughters Savannah Cottle with husband Joseph, Alexandra Padilla,
Isabel Padilla, and Victoria Padilla; and great granddaughter Zoey Cottle.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 18, from 5:00-7:00 pm at Brown Memorial Funeral Home, 707 N MacArthur Blvd.

Funeral services will be Thursday, January 19, at 2:00 pm at First Irving Church, 403 S Main Street, followed by burial at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens, 1413 E Irving Blvd....To View The Funeral Service Please Click Here
