Obituary for Linda Rice Chamberlain

Linda Rice Chamberlain, formerly of Irving, Texas, was called home on Sunday, November 6, 2022. She passed away peacefully at the age of 73 after a long battle with progressive dementia, surrounded by her loved ones. Linda left this world as a caring wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend.

Linda was born on July 29, 1949, and lived most of her life in Irving, Texas. She was the eldest daughter of P.H. “Sonny” Rice and Marvelle Rice Murrell. Linda attended MacArthur High School where she graduated in the top 10 of the first graduating class and enjoyed being a member of the Cardettes. She met the love of her life, Scott Chamberlain, at MacArthur High School and followed him to Texas Tech University in Lubbock. During her freshman year of college, Linda became a member of the Gamma Phi Beta sorority. While at Texas Tech, the high school sweethearts married, graduated with the class of 1971, and then started their life together in Irving, returning home and living near family.

After Linda received her bachelor’s degree in math, she began her teaching career at her alma mater, MacArthur High School. She taught for several years before becoming a devoted mother to Matthew and Stacy. Linda treasured her children and embraced every moment with them. She went back to teaching after her kids went off to college. Linda taught for over 25 years and was a wonderful teacher and friend to all her students. She retired in 2015 but continued her dedication to education through tutoring and substitute teaching.

While Linda loved being a mother to her children, Matt and Stacy, the real fun came when she became Grammie to Brady and Liam, who she adored. She loved taking her grandsons on outings and enjoyed many family vacations together. Linda’s other favorite past times included shopping, going to movies, eating out, and playing bunco with her family and friends. You could always find her with a camera, as she loved to capture memories through photographs. She was an active member of Plymouth Park Baptist Church for over 20 years before moving to the Church of Colleyville.

Linda is proceeded in death by her father, P.H. “Sonny” Rice; husband, Scott Chamberlain; and sister-in-law, Lori Chamberlain Schultz. She is survived by her son Matthew, daughter Stacy and her husband Tim Cober; grandsons Brady Chamberlain and Liam Cober; all from the Flower Mound area. Linda is also survived by her mother, Marvelle Rice Murrell and her husband Charlie of Irving; sisters, Sherry Eckert of Coppell and Jana Sayre and husband Gary of Irving; Brother-in-law, Ken Schultz of Ledbetter, as well as several nieces, nephews, two great-nieces and the best friends a woman could ever be blessed with.

Please join us in a celebration of Linda’s life at Plymouth Park Baptist Church, 1714 North Story Road, Irving at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, November 18, 2022. Family will receive friends at a viewing to be held prior to the service starting at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow the service at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens in Irving.
