Obituary for Melanie Linton (Bercutt)

Melanie Linton
Those we love don’t go away, they walk beside us every day, unseen unheard but always near we will hold you in our hearts so dear. Melanie G. Bercutt Linton was taken from us too soon, and we will miss her deeply every day. She was a loving wife and a loving mother of three. She is survived by her sister Verlea Bercutt Harvey, and brother Donald Roberson. Her loving husband of almost 30 years Max Linton, her son Shawn Garrett. Grandchildren Sydnee Garrett, Brooklyn Garrett, Lexington Garrett and Braxton Garrett. And her beautiful daughters Melissa Linton and Morgan Linton, and granddaughter Gwenivere Reign. Sickness swept through like a pack of hungry wolves, and we lost our Mrs. Melanie unexpectedly to cancer on June 23rd, 2020 at 2:10 pm in Dallas Texas, a day that will never be forgotten by those who loved her so profoundly and dearly, a day that tears stopped time and forever changed the lives of those who she meant so much to. She was just shy of her 64th birthday.
However, her life has made a lasting impact on those she has known. Anybody who knew Melanie can’t walk around their home without seeing something that reminds them of Melanie. Melanie was one of the most generous people anyone could ever meet. She was a very talented Ceramic artist and painter and has gifted countless ceramics through the years to her friends, family and even acquaintances, teachers, and anyone who she could make smile. She was so creative she was always so involved with her daughter’s school and extracurricular activities she didn’t let one holiday, or field trip go by without spoiling the girls entire class with gift bags, homemade ornaments, crafts and special treats. If a student didn’t have a ride home, she would always drive them to where they needed to go and make sure they got home safe and sound, no matter how late she was running to other things. Students would always tell Morgan and Melissa, “wow your mom is so nice, you are so lucky that’s your mom,” and we are still to this day so very lucky. No holiday or birthday went by without Melanie completely spoiling her children and making sure she got every item on her daughter Melissa’s Christmas list. She never told her girls Santa wasn’t real and until this very day her girls still received gifts from Santa.
Christmas was her favorite holiday. Every year it was important that Melanie had the house fully decked out with handmade decorations, a Christmas village, garland, lights, stockings filled a beautiful tree, candy apples, and her favorite Swiss colony toffee as well as her famous homemade fudge. Every year when we would ask Melanie what she would want for Christmas she would say, “nothing sweetie don’t spend your money I have everything I need,” because that was what she always enjoyed most, was watching her loved ones open the gifts she got them not opening her own. For her last Christmas when we asked her what her favorite gift was, she loved a statue of a griffin snuggling her two babies, gifted from her husband Max. She would always make deviled eggs, seafood stuffed mushrooms, Yorkshire pudding and fried potatoes, some of our favorite’s she would make specially for the holidays. No holiday will ever be the same without her. Her favorite Christmas movie was National Lampoons Christmas Vacation, and her favorite Christmas quote was, I will honor Christmas in my heart and try to keep it all the year,” by Charles Dickens. And so that is what we will do, as well as honor her in our hearts and keep memory close and dear.
Speaking of her favorite things, Melanie was a huge animal lover, and didn’t go one day without the love of her fur babies. She was survived by her dogs Bear Bear and Roo Roo who look for her every day. As well Athena the cat, who loved to snuggle with Melanie every single night. She met at the rainbow bridge with Missy, Riley, Lady, Indy, Coco and Lucky. She absolutely loved nature, and one of her favorite beauty’s was flowers. Every year Melanie had so many flowering bushes, lilies, irises, roses, hydrangeas, and countless others that bloom yearly in her yard. She would enjoy each year seeing everything grow. With her green thumb she would grow delicious tomatoes, beans, peppers, cucumbers, eggplants and many vegetables and herbs. No seed she planted wouldn’t pop up. She was so kind in the garden and would always rescue snakes and lizards and relocate them if needed, her outdoor frog she’s had for years and loved still hops by on the patio. She enjoyed collecting seashells, to remind her of one of her favorite places on earth the beach, where she had one of her favorite memories riding a horse on the beach. Yet, there was so many vacations she loved like taking her girls to Disneyland, taking cruises with her friends, visiting the River walk in San Antonio, the Galveston island beach and eat her favorite food seafood at Landrys, or the many summers spent being a proud mom watching her son Shawn Garrett play professional baseball. Nothing made her prouder than to spend the summers going to see her son do what he loved and be so talented at it. She would cheer him on and collect bats and signed baseballs by him. Her favorite trip to see a baseball game was to drive to Memphis to see him play against the Memphis red birds, and go to The Peabody Hotel and see the ducks, visit the jewelry store at The Peabody and look at the jade jewelry, and then go eat her favorite Gus’s famous fried chicken. She would always make a trip to a cracker barrel on any road trip she would stop and eat and shop there. She loved turquoise jewelry reminding her of her Cherokee Indian roots. She always had to have cherry flavored anything especially loved cherry snow cones and cherry popsicles. She loved taking photographs and scrapbooking her family and documenting all the memories and moments which we are so lucky to have, so creative she was. She never wanted to miss a firework show on the fourth of July, watched every episode of family feud, and never left the house without her makeup and hair perfect. One of her favorite song’s was, Live for today by Grass Roots, but she also really loved the song, You’ll be in my heart by Phil Collins from Disney’s Tarzan which was her daughter Melissa’s favorite childhood movie, but most of all from her favorite movie The wizard of Oz she loved the song, Somewhere over the rainbow by Judy Garland. She would always dress the girls in glittery red, ruby slipper shoes for pictures growing up. Reminding her of her time growing up with her brother and sister in Kansas. The last days she was home she enjoyed watching the new live action Dumbo, and live action Lady and the Tramp with her daughter Morgan. She enjoyed seeing those movies in the cartoon version as a child. She loved her fire pit and always wanted a house with a fireplace. She enjoyed shopping. Her favorite colors were Red and Blue, but said she liked all colors and her favorite car which she always wanted was a T-bird. She loved to eat shrimp, crab and lobster and any kind of oysters especially raw, fried or smoked. She loved to eat her favorite vegetable Brussel sprouts. Her favorite fruit was cantaloupe and cherries. Her favorite ice cream was mint chocolate chip and she loved to get a BMT from subway with creamy Italian. Her favorite breakfast was summer sausage with scrambled eggs and cinnamon rolls. She learned to play the clarinet in High School where she attended Salem High, but her biggest talent in life was being such a loving and caring mother who would do absolutely anything for her children.
God saw you were getting tired and a cure was not to be, so he put his arms around you and whispered, “come with me” with tearful eyes we watched you suffer and saw you fade away, although we loved you dearly we could not make you stay, a golden heart stopped beating, hardworking hands were laid to rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us he only takes the best. It’s unfair she had to leave us, so early and unexpectedly. We just wish we could hear her laugh, see her smile, and tell her we love her again, and how wonderful she was and thank her for everything. We can’t believe it. We can’t imagine she won’t come home again. We can’t believe she will never grace our presence, walk her gardens, pet her fur babies, or hang another ornament on the Christmas tree. We all ask ourselves why, but anytime we see a flower bloom, look somewhere over the rainbow, see a seashell, or smell her favorite perfume Coco Chanel we will think of her, our loving, caring, beautiful, kind, talented, protective, creative, thoughtful, funny, smart, loved and dearly missed, Momma Melanie.
