Obituary for Peggy Chambers King
Peggy Chambers King
Peggy passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by her family on January 21, 2021 at the age of 89 years young. She fought a valiant, nearly two-year battle with lung cancer. The radiation oncologist pulled her aside after she completed her second round of radiation and told her, “You are one of the bravest patients I have ever treated.” She was a tiny little woman but possessed an internal fortitude that was amazing.
Peg was born on June 20, 1931 to Billy and Nellie Chambers in Dallas, TX and shortly after, moved to Cedar Hill, TX where she would call home until marrying the love of her life, Charlie King. She graduated as the Valedictorian of her class (of 8!) at Cedar Hill High and immediately went to work for Employers Casualty in Dallas. When she re-entered the workforce after raising her kids, she went to work for Haber Fabrics in Irving where she stayed for close to 30 years before retiring. The Haber gang became a second family for her.
Peg loved her grandchildren (to whom she was known as Mama Peg), her children, her nightly margarita (but only in a small glass, please), the horse races, trips to Winstar, her daily scratch offs, anything sweet but especially donuts from the local donut shop, Aggie football (but only if it was a runaway, she didn’t have the stomach for close or even somewhat close games), the Dallas Cowboys (until they fired Tom Landry, then not so much), rice (but only with butter and sugar, how else would you eat it?), the dollar store, Willie Nelson and Robert Earl Keen and of course, the stray cats she adopted. When her grandkids were young, she made it a point to introduce them to fishing, taking them to Towne Lake in Irving and teaching them to catch and release.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Charlie, her parents, and her brother Billy Ray Chambers. Peggy is survived by her two children Terri King Lins and Charles Brian King, her son in law Karl Lins and daughter in law Tracy King as well as her four grandchildren, the lights of her life: Lily King, Keenan Lins, Levi King and Adrian Lins. Also, her sister in law, Wanda Bush and numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and many friends who loved Peg like a member of their own family.
Peg’s humor and tenaciousness will be greatly missed. In lieu of flowers, the family asks, if you feel like doing something in her memory, that you donate to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals or to your local animal shelter.
A graveside service will be held at Little Bethel Cemetery (1803 Cedar Hill Rd, Duncanville) on Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at 2:00 p.m.
