Obituary for Phyllis Audrey Sutherland Stowe

Phyllis Stowe (Sutherland)
March 13, 1928 – September 16, 2020

Phyllis Sutherland Stowe, 92, a long-time resident of Irving, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, September 16, 2020 in Granbury Texas. Phyllis was born in Peoria, Illinois on March 13, 1928 to mother Evelyn Van Tassel and father Donald Angus Sutherland. She was raised in Harvard, Illinois until moving to Texas at age 25.

Phyllis is preceded in death by her loving husband, Robert “Bob” Wesley Stowe; daughter, Deborah Jean Stitt; great grandson, Hunter Douglas Hindman; brothers Eugene “Gene” and William “Bill” Sutherland; and parents, Evelyn and Donald Sutherland.

Phyllis retired as an executive secretary from General Motors. She and husband, Bob, were active members of First United Methodist Church of Irving, Texas, traveled extensively with friends of the North Texas Travel Trailer Club, where she was known as “Margarita Mama,” and were active members of The Swinging Squares square dance club. Phyllis also enjoyed sewing, arts and crafts, was a member of a women’s book club, and was an avid Dallas Cowboys and Texas Rangers fan. She was affectionately known by her family as “Mom,” “Grandma,” “MeMaw,” and “GG.”

Phyllis is survived by daughter, Mary Denise Poole and husband Kenny of Granbury, Texas; daughter, Tamara Sue McCarthy of Irving, Texas; grandson, Michael Brandon Hindman and wife Cyne’ of Argyle, Texas; great granddaughter, Mackenzie Marie Hindman; great grandson Robert Mason Hindman; grandson, Jason Edward Stitt of Houston, Texas; great granddaughter, Chassidy Marie Stitt; grandson, Brett Duane Sandy of Austin, Texas; grandson, Joshua Adam Lawson of Arlington, Texas; great granddaughter, Alyssa Paige Lawson; granddaughter, Vanessa Lenee Lawson of Arlington, Texas; great grandson, Jordan Wesley Barnett; and numerous other family and friends who will all miss Phyllis dearly.

A family only viewing will be held at Brown’s Funeral Home in Irving, Texas on Monday, September 21, 2020 (10 at a time / max 30), followed by a public viewing at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens in Irving, Texas from 11:30 am – 12:00 pm. Graveside services will begin at approximately 12:00 pm. A reminder no public restrooms are available at this time at Brown's Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church in Irving, Texas, in honor of the “Wednesday Work Crew.”
