Obituary for Raymond "Kelly" Ellis

Raymond “Kelly” Ellis, 88 of Irving passed away May 31, 2022. He was born on June 28, 1933, in Terrell, Texas to Alfred Campbell Ellis and Nola Ethel (Harris) Ellis. Kelly graduated from Duncanville High School in 1951 then served his country in the United States Army from 1953 until 1955 when he began serving in the Army Reserves as a gun crewman. After his service he worked as a painter and was a member of the Painters and Allied Trades Union #53 for 30 years. He was a former member of the CB Club and Moose Lodge and enjoyed racing cars at the Sportsdrome Speedway Dirt Track #7 in the early sixties.
He was known in the neighborhood as “Mr. Kelly the Bike Man” as he collected antique bicycles and rode in many parades. He also made ready the bicycles given to children during the Fireman White Christmas Bicycle campaign. Kelly was a longtime member of Oak View Baptist Church serving as an usher and attending the Kingsman Sunday School Class. Preceded in death by his parents and brothers Vernon Ray Ellis and Lanny Charles Ellis, he leaves behind to cherish his memory wife Emily Ellis; daughter Teresa Richardson and husband Ed; son Terry Ellis and wife Brenda; daughter Rosie Huerta and husband Sid; son Charles Ellis and wife Linda; daughter Melissa Sinclair and husband Jason; 35 grand and great grandchildren and a host of other loving family and friends. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Friday, June 3, 2022 at Brown’s Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral service to be held at 2:00 pm, on Saturday June 4, 2022 at Oak View Baptist Church at 1004 South Story Road in Irving with Dr. Jim Gerlach officiating. Burial will immediately follow the service at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens at 1413 E. Irving Boulevard in Irving. Memorial donations may be made to Oak View Baptist Church in Kelly’s memory.
