Obituary for Robert A. Carter

Robert Carter beloved father and grandfather passed away on February 22, 2022 at the age of 100 in the loving care of his son Jeff Carter. Bob was born in Iowa City, Iowa on June 6, 1921 to Elizabeth Zondervan and Benjamin F. Carter. He joined the Navy at 19 and honorably served his country in World War II aboard the USS Tennessee at Pearl Harbor, receiving a purple heart; in the Korean Conflict aboard the USS Montrose; and, in the Aleutian Islands Campaign.

Bob was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Nancy Perry Carter. He is survived by his children and their spouses, Wayne (Nancy) Carter, Stephanie (Harold) Rumph, Jeff (Trish) Carter, and Kim (Tom) Vander Heiden; his grandchildren Christin Carter, Chad Carter, Clay Carter, Miles Hopkins, Ellen Downey, Tony Carter, Kassi Chase, Josh Vander Heiden, Zach Vander Heiden, Eric Strong and Kevin Strong; and, 19 great grandchildren.

He loved his family and had a passion for horses and ponies, root beer floats, fun size chocolate bars and all Baylor Sports teams. His family is thankful for 100 years of wonderful memories and he will be truly missed.
Services will be held at Ben F. Brown Memorial Funeral Services on March 15, 2022 at 11:30am followed by burial at the National Cemetery at 1:30pm.
