Obituary for Rodney Wayne Sims

Rodney W. Sims, son, father, and friend quietly passed on Tuesday, March 23, 2021 at home. Rodney was born in Dallas, Texas on August 27, 1968 to Linda K. Sims (nee McClure) of Irving Texas and adopted by his late step-father, Arlie Lee Sims.

Rodney was descended from the Farine family, one of Irving’s earliest families. He grew up in Irving, and lived most of his life in the Dallas- Ft Worth area. He was a talented sheet metal worker and welder and spent most of his career in the sign and graphics industry in various positions, including design, fabrication and installation. Rodney was an amazing artist in multiple mediums, including drawing, painting, and music. He had no formal training, yet loved playing classical pieces by Beethoven and Mozart on his piano. Rodney loved sharing his artwork and collaborating with other artists he respected. His artistic talent led him to become a tattoo artist, and many people now wear his art on their skin.

Rodney leaves behind his mother, Linda K. Sims and two sons, Duncan Connor Cowling Sims and Quintin Zee Cowling Sims.

A dear friend said, "Rodney was my friend - a fiercely loyal and tenacious friend. I truly admired his talent and was in awe of what he could do with a pencil. I wear his art in the form of tattoos that he personally did for me. The piece that I see the most is on my wrist. A small pair of angel wings and the verse, Philippians 1:3 - I thank my God for my every memory of you. Rest in peace my friend"

The family requests that those wishing to make a memorial contribution on Rodney’s behalf donate to the Visiting Nurse Association (VNA) Hospice, who helped make his final weeks as comfortable as possible.
