Obituary for Sam Rayburn Shelton Jr.

Sam Rayburn Shelton was welcomed home in the arms of his Lord and Savior on December 15, 2021, in Dallas, Texas. He was born March 21, 1944, during a hurricane on the Harlingen Airforce in Harlingen, Texas to parents, Emma, and Sam Shelton. Sam followed his father’s footsteps and proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. After Sam’s service in the Air Force, he went to work for Boloro as the head mechanic for 27 years. Sam will be remembered as the best mechanic you could know there was nothing that he could not fix. He shot the very first three hundred at the Golden Triangle Bowl. Sam had many hobbies he loved which included: bowling, fishing, dancing, and playing guitar. He was a great cook and made the best pork fired rice and beef tips and noodles. Above all Sam will be remembered as a loving husband to his wife of 40 years Barbara, a loving father, and grandfather.

Sam is meet in heaven by his father, Sam R. Shelton, and mother, Emma (Palmer) Shelton. Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife Barbara Shelton; daughter, Carole Fortune; son, Steven Rayburn Shelton; son, Sam Rayburn Shelton III; son, Brett Alexander Shelton; daughter, Cassea Ann Shelton; granddaughter, Tristine and Davina Ann Lee; grandsons: Tyler, Spencer, Julian, and Logan; sister, Karen Robb; sister, Susan Soltis; seven nieces and nephews; as well as numerous other family and friends who will miss Sam dearly.
