Obituary for Scott Doane Chamberlain

Scott Doane Chamberlain, formerly of Irving, Texas, was called home on January 16, 2022. Unwavering faith and an abundance of love shown by his family and friends gave Scott the strength & determination to defy the odds stacked against him for many years in his battle against colon cancer.

Scott was born the only son of Doane W. and Ruby (Den Herder) Chamberlain on November 19, 1949, in Santa Monica, California. Being part of a Navy family that lived in different areas of the world, Scott found a love for language and travel that served him throughout his life. Some of his fondest memories were when the family lived in the Dominican Republic where Scott became fluent in Spanish and being a big brother!

After his mother went into Civil Service, the Chamberlain family settled in Irving. Scott attended MacArthur High School where he met the love of his life, Linda Rice. They graduated from MacArthur in 1967 and followed each other to Texas Tech University in Lubbock. While at Texas Tech, the high school sweethearts married, graduated with the class of 1971 then started their life together near family in Irving. Scott worked over thirty years in the automotive parts distribution industry; never meeting a stranger as he traveled throughout most of the United States.

While Scott loved being Matt & Stacy’s Dad, the real fun came when he became Poo-Paw to Brady and Liam, whom he adored. Another of Scott’s greatest honors was serving and speaking of his love for God. He was an active member at First Baptist Church of Colleyville and served the congregation of Plymouth Park Baptist Church as a Deacon for over 20 years, including time served as the Chairman of the Deacons.

Scott is proceeded in death by his parents, Ruby & Doane Chamberlain; sisters, Vicki Chamberlain and Lori Chamberlain Schultz; and father-in-law, Sonny Rice. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Linda; son Matthew, daughter Stacy and her husband Tim Cober; grandsons Brady Chamberlain and Liam Cober; all from the Flower Mound area. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Marvelle Rice Murrell & husband Charlie of Las Colinas; brother-in-law, Ken Schultz of Ledbetter; sisters-in-law Sherry Eckert of Coppell and Jana Sayre & husband Gary of Las Colinas as well as several nieces, nephews, two great-nieces and the best friends a man could ever be blessed with.

A service of remembrance will be held at Plymouth Park Baptist Church at 11a.m. on January 29, 2022. A viewing will be held prior at 10a.m. Burial will follow the service at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens in Irving.
