Sharon Siders Dickey died on March 19, 2021, surrounded by the love of her family, at her Irving home at the age of 84. She was born Sharon Lee Siders on August 08, 1936, in Omaha, Nebraska, the only child of Mike and Ruth Siders.
She lived most of her childhood in Omaha. She had a close-knit extended family, and enjoyed playing the piano and writing poetry. She especially enjoyed horseback riding, and even won a couple of competitions. She moved with her parents to Dallas in her junior year of high school, and they fell in love with Texas. She finished high school in Oak Cliff, where she was on the debate team. She graduated from Sunset High School in 1954.
She and her parents joined Sunset Presbyterian Church in Oak Cliff In 1953. In her early years there, she was active in the youth group and then the young adult group, where she met her future husband Gene. She continued to be active there for many years, singing in the choir, teaching Sunday school, participating in women’s groups, etc.
She and Gene were married in 1957, and moved to Irving in 1959. She worked for a short while at an Air Force procurement office, before leaving to become a dedicated Mom and homemaker. Their first daughter, Christy, was born in 1959 with mental and physical disabilities and a heart defect. Their second daughter, Sandy, was born healthy in 1963. Sharon was a dedicated mother, including serving as a room mother at Christy’s school and leading Sandy’s Camp Fire Girls troop. She dedicated many years to caring for Christy, who died in 1983 at the age of 23.
In 1972, they transferred to Woodhaven Presbyterian Church in Irving. Sharon continued singing in the choir for decades. She also served as a Sunday school teacher and a Stephen Minister, and was involved in many other church activities.
Sharon is preceded in death by her husband Gene, her daughter, Christy Dickey, parents Mike and Ruth Siders, brother-in-law Don Dickey, and sister-in-law, Doris Dickey. She is survived by her daughter, Sandy Dickey of Irving; a niece and 2 nephews; and several extended family members.
A graveside service is scheduled for 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 30, 2021 in Greenwood Garden at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens, 1413 East Irving Blvd., Irving, Texas 75060.
Due to Covid Restrictions and Concerns, a Public Memorial Service will occur in the future to truly celebrate Sharon’s life and her Entrance to the Church Triumphant at Woodhaven Presbyterian Church, 3650 North O’Connor Road, Irving, Texas 75062.
