Paula Fuller Flatley, of Arlington, previously of Irving, entered into eternal rest on September 28, 2015. Born May 19, 1943 in Dallas, Paula was a resident of Grand Prairie, Houston, The Woodlands, Irving and Arlington during her lifetime. Devoted daughter of the late John and Doris Fuller, sister of the late John Cosby Fuller, and also preceded in death by her beloved husband Francis X Flatley. She is survived by her children Bret Bowman and wife Deirdre of Tampa, Florida and Catherine Bundick and husband Joel of Aurora, Colorado; grandchildren Elizabeth Anne Bowman, Garrett Bundick, Grayson and wife Jenae Bundick; step-grandchildren including Melissa and husband Ryan; Andrew, Christine, Gabby, Kate, Meghan, Kevin and Michaela. Mrs. Flatley was the forty-third heart transplant recipient at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas on May 22, 1988. She spent much of her time after the transplant speaking for donor awareness and the great need of donors in the field of organ and tissue donation. Paula was proud of her single engine pilot’s license and instrument rating along with the awards for proficiency racing and spot landing contests she had earned. Her “Aunty Ariel” cartoons regarding pilot safety were published in Ninety Nine Magazine and newsletters for women pilots. She was a member of the “99” Chapter of Houston and charter member of the Northwest “99” Chapter of Women Pilots. Paula also won ribbons and awards at the state level for her needlepoint. She was an active member of the Irving Symphony League and past Trustee of the Irving Symphony Orchestra Association. Having studied piano, wind instruments and voice during her years in Grand Prairie and at the University of Texas at Arlington, she possessed a deep love of music. She was the first recipient of the Irving Symphony League’s distinguished Service Award of Excellence. An active alumna in the Delta Delta Delta Sorority, Paula served as President of the Houston Braes Bayou Chapter and was a charter member of the Northwest Harris County Tri Delta Alumnae Chapter. She frequently attended their state and national conventions and chaired “special projects” in the Irving Tri Delta Alumnae Chapter, continuing to be active in the organization until her death. Mrs. Flatley served on the Board of Directors for the Crossroads Interfaith Housing Program that assists families in homeless situations return to productive lives in the community through education in the areas of financial, emotional and spiritual changes in their lives. With her husband, Frank, she was honored by the City of Irving and the Irving Convention and Visitors Bureau as “High Spirited Citizens” for their contributions. Her favorite service was, however, as TexasFest Chairman for the Irving Healthcare Foundation gala which benefits the Baylor Scott and White Healthcare System at Irving/Coppell. She is quoted as having said, “The joy of serving as TexasFest Chairman and the elation of that evening will only be extended when I joyously enter into the gates of Heaven to stand in the presence of my Lord and Savior.” Mrs. Flatley was a religion student at Houston Baptist University and a member of Plymouth Park Baptist Church. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, October 3, 2015 in Brown’s Memorial Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Joel Bundick of Aurora, CO and Father Brian Flatley of Boston, MA officiating. Interment will immediately follow in the family plots at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens also in Irving. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Delta, Delta, Delta Foundation, Irving Symphony Orchestra Association or Irving Healthcare Foundation.
