Condolence: I worked with Don at the DA's office for several years. He was a good colleague and always willing to spend his time helping us younger lawyers. I admired the steadiness and good humor he brought to the office.

Condolence: Don....a small name for such a big hearted, gentle giant. While I certainly don’t have the number of memories his children and grandchildren have with him, I’ve been his niece by marriage for almost 13 years, and I have so many wonderful memories of my own. It started with me going to his and Patricia’s house a week before we got married for the annual Christmas party in 2003. It was my first time meeting all of the family, and he just welcomed me with a hug that only Don could give. I knew then he was a special man to take a complete stranger into his home, feed her, and along with his wife, present her with a wedding cake. Fast forward a few years. We were pregnant with our first child, and Don was the first one at the hospital to welcome our baby girl into the world. He even got there before we did ahead of our labor induction time. My mother, also at the hospital and a US history teacher, loved getting to know him and hear all of his stories from his Marine Corps days. Again, he was example of a gracious soul who made friends easily. He and Patricia proceeded to show up with flowers and/or cookies every time I was at the hospital – whether to have yet another baby or having pregnancy complications. Over the years, I heard countless stories of wonderful activities Don did with my husband Cody as he was growing up. It’s because of Don that Cody built his first computer, got to go to the NASA space center in Houston, and even developed a love of classic cars that has since turned into a dream job for him. I never once doubted the love he had for my husband, me, or our 3 girls. He truly wasn’t just an uncle to any of us; he was an integral part of our family. I like to think if he were to reach out to us now, he would tell us to love one another, being kind and tenderhearted which he truly exemplified. He’d also share the Marine Corps mantra “Semper Fideles” (always faithful)…whether it be in our walks with God, our journeys with fellowman, or towards our country. He was deeply loved by all of us, and his legacy will continue on in our hearts. Farewell, my uncle and my friend.

Condolence: I was both shocked and saddened to learn about Don’s death. He and I met while working together in the DA’s office and I considered him a true friend for many, many years. He was an old-fashioned gentleman in every good sense of that term: Don always calm, kind, generous and unfailingly courteous. He loved his family and was fiercely devoted to them, especially his wife Patricia. He will be greatly missed.
