An Instrument of God

Those who had the privilege to know Pastor Harold McSwain personally would easily agree he was not just another preacher doing his work for the Lord, but he was also an instrument of God.

When I first met Pastor Harold, I have made known to him my immigration status, that I came here to the US under a work permit also known as H1B visa. I had been seeking permanent residence here via green card, but the process was taking so long because of the annual cap on issuance of green cards. The process is also tricky, because those who are already in line could get pushed back further behind every time a priority worker enters the country. When my priority date became current, Pastor Harold decided he would try helping me by writing to our state senator to make sure my application would not face any unnecessary delays. My green card came in the mail a week after receiving an acknowledgement letter from the senator's office. That was just part of the good news, because after another week the green card priority dates retrogressed, which means I would have been waiting for my priority date to become current again.

Getting my permanent residence card had been a big deal not only for me but also for my family because it took us 13 years to get it. Pastor Harold admitted he did not know the immigration law. He said it simply popped into his mind to try what he did. And he refused to take credit for becoming instrumental in helping me and my family. But both of us agreed God's hands was behind it in answer to our prayers.
