Obituary for Kathryn Downer

Kathryn Coultas Downer, of Denton, passed away Wednesday, February 20, 2013 after a long battle with breast cancer. She was born July 3, 1946 in Jacksonville, Illinois, the daughter of Richard and Lillian (Green) Coultas, of Winchester, Illinois. She graduated from Winchester High School in 1964 and attended Illinois College in Jacksonville from 1964-1966. She received a degree in Retail Buying and Fashion Marketing from Tobi-Coburn Fashion School in New York City in 1967. She returned to Illinois College and received her degree in 1972. Kathy taught third grade at Franklin Grade School in Franklin, Illinois from 1972-1979. She lived in Jacksonville from 1972-1986 with her husband Jim, while he worked for Illinois College. They later moved to Springfield, Illinois from 1986-2008, where she worked for Jim Wilson’s Interiors. Kathy and her husband of 45 years moved to Denton, Texas and retired in an area called Robson Ranch. She is survived by her husband James; son James Matthew of Clinton, South Carolina; sister Jeanne Downer and brother-in-law Robert of Tucson, Arizona; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 PM Saturday, March 2, 2013 at the Robson Ranch Clubhouse. Memorial donations may be made to American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 560089, Dallas, TX 75356.
