I worked for John Wever and Bob Schiegg for 7 years (1989 - 1996) at Ecco Chemicals. I learned so much at that job, but most especially I learned what it was like to feel like you were working with family. I loved John and Bob, even though I could get stressed and out of sorts, and I hope it never showed. But they never were that way with me. They were always kind and hard working.
I worked 8:30 to 5:30, so at 5 when everyone left John stayed with me until 5:30. We had a bunch of fun discussions in that 30 minutes. I remember the best story ever was the one where he had a VW (I think) and he had the dogs in the car and got out for some reason I can no longer remember. He said the one dog (was it a poodle?) jumped up and down and eventually hit the gear shift and the car started going across the field near their house. He's chasing the car on foot, the dogs enjoying their ride across the field. He said he thought he'd never get that car stopped. I can still remember how hard I laughed when he told this story, and how much he laughed and enjoyed telling it. John was one of a kind. No one like him anywhere.
I will always have only fond memories of John, and of Martha, Debbie, and Rod too. I also remember Timothy and Roxanne. I remember baby Victoria being born but I don't think I ever saw her. What a wonderful family this was. I remember the babies calling him Dandad.
Martha and the rest of the family, my heart hurts right now realizing that dear John is no longer with us here. I know we will all see him again one day. Please accept my deep and sincere condolences and prayers.
